Following their sister venue Maha East’s footsteps, Shane Delia and his team are hoping to bring a little bit of their magic to Melbourne’s inner north. Set to open in Collingwood this February, Maha Bar will be a cocktail-focused meze bar that embodies Shane’s unrestricted Middle Eastern cooking from his much-awarded CBD institution, Maha.
“We are sticking to what we do best. Good food and service with flavour packed dishes that keep people smiling. You will still find all the hallmarks of what you love from the Maha brands but the biggest difference this time will be our focus on booze. We have curated an exciting list of cocktails, wine and brews that will help us bring to life our little Melbournian meze bar.” – Shane Delia
Situated in the heart of Collingwood’s vibrant and eclectic Smith street, is a Melbournian expression of a meze bar. Patrons can expect to find bespoke cocktails with Middle Eastern soul and a share style menu that showcases small & large plates along with fun, single-serve hors d’oeuvre style snack items designed to work perfectly with drinks.
In keeping with the Delia Group tradition, our seasonal menu will include an extensive list of vegan & non-vegan dishes, allowing guests to create their own food journey with both snack items or larger shared items. Maha Bar’s diverse small and large meze items are seasonal produce driven, while bringing all the hallmarks of Shane’s unrestricted Middle Eastern style cooking.
Staying true to our neighbourhood values, our Sommeliers work with local and international suppliers to hand-pick wines that have an organic and biodynamic focus, including some of the best producers from around the world. Maha Bar will be serving Middle Eastern inspired house cocktails, infused araks & rakis along with all your favourite classics making sure your time with us is time spent well.
“I have learnt a lot over the past 11 years with our CBD Maha restaurant, the biggest lessons being that you cannot move forward unless you have confidence in who you are and what you do and you can only make moves when the timing is right. It took me 10 years to open Maha East and now that we have a bulletproof team who are all focused on what we need to achieve, we are ready to bring to life some of our dreams and create experiences like Maha Bar. It is a very exciting time at Delia Group and we can’t wait to give our customers new and exciting experiences” – Shane Delia
The movers and shakers at St Kilda based design firm, studio Y have been engaged to bring Shane’s vision of Maha Bar to life. A mixture of comfortable high bar seating, booths and dining tables, completed by classic wood panelling, dim lighting complimented with commissioned artwork from Lebanese/ French artist Raphaelle Macaron and an eclectic soundtrack will all come together to create a moody and engaging ambiance.
“Working with Shane is always fun! He has a brilliant eye for detail and knows exactly what he wants to achieve. We work with many brilliant operators but none who possess such an in tune understanding of what their guests want. Maha Bar will be a really exciting venue and we are very much looking forward to seeing it come to life” Yaron Kanor – studio Y
“I am beyond excited to be working with so many talented people on Maha Bar, Raphaelle’s artwork is so much fun and will help me bring out the soul of the bar. I think people are going to fall in love with our little meze bar and it will become their new home for good times.” – Shane Delia
Being a proud Maltese Australian, Shane has fond memories of the great bars of Malta where meze is gifted to drinking customers every Sunday.
